An inhouse corporate training facility and residential premises for people attending short courses; the centre has classrooms and five star accommodation. Facilities include open space and playing fields.
The building is designed in the form of a bastion. Classrooms occupy the rear, with the curved area forming an open terrace. The classrooms are segregated and the central area between them is spill-over space. The bastion form enables receding terraces overlooking each other. Double-height courtyards and light wells provide light and cross ventilation and act as sound barriers.
The accommodation block has the same form and geometry as the training block. Each wing of six rooms is separated by an external stair and open break-out space. The organic curved plan carries through to elements such as the fire escape stair, entry steps and two end units with common facilities.
Formal areas classrooms, seminar rooms, workshop spaces, services and accommodation units are designed so that between each function is a semi-open, informal space, encouraging meeting and exchange.
