- 6 Acres
A set of six villas for a close knit joint family is to function as isolated independent houses as well as an integrated neighborhood community.
The six villas were laid out so as to form a central open space where children can play and large family gatherings can take place. This open space also forms the foreground for the villas on either side. Each villa has its own private and public lawns which are differentiated from the public space by a split level. A community pool, spa and party area will cater to all the residents and also forms a buffer along the western edge of the site which abuts a village.
Each villa is designed in the spirit of the community. In the southern villas the double height public areas interact with the central open space and are separated by a glass wall. One can step out directly from the public areas onto the front lawn and immediately become part of the unobstructed open space. In the northern villas the private lawns screened by a layer of trees can plug onto the larger central space in case of a large gathering. The villa can still be segregated by moving stone jallis.
Integration of traditional Indian planning strategies and elements reinterpreted and aided with technology has resulted in a refined harmonious contemporary Indian Architectural vocabulary which is also extremely energy efficient. Each house would have half the energy requirement which would be further reduced by using geothermal air-conditioning, thermal walls, energy efficient lighting and photovoltaic panels.
