This outlet of the elite designer partnership of Shantanu & Nikhil at the Emporio, follows the brand direction that was defined in their first shop in New Delhi almost 5 year ago. While the elaboration of the brand image has been further developed by Martand Khosla, there remains apparent a clear spatial link with the earlier shop to clearly signal a brand linkage at a formal level. This link has been achieved by the use of similar wooden strip cladding that define a surface fluidity that moves effortlessly from the curved walls to the floor and to the ceiling from which are suspended wall forms. The whole serves as the formal cellular context for the designed clothing that is displayed at specially lit and located places. This is a designed retail environment and hence is not overwhelmed by the merchandise. On the contrary there is a delicate balance between the displayed clothing and the surface of the shop walls and flooring. The natural material of wood serves as a backdrop to enhance the exclusivity of the designed clothing. The fluidity of the architectural surface synchronise with the inherent nature of fabric.
This small retail space has forward and backward moving planes. The planes are all connected as one, as the floor curves up to form the wall, which curves up to form the ceiling, which continues onto form the furniture as well as the changing rooms. The connected surfaces conceal all the shop storage as well as the shop electronics, making the shop a small neat space. The wood finishing adds to the comfort and softness to make the space more natural. In this shop, the undulating planes and form harmonizes with material simplicity to provide the best environment to customers, and the unique design elevates the value of this small retail space.
