As a result of increasing public awareness and various treaties and conventions all over the world, there is now a concerted movement in place towards accepting only those forest products which have originated from sustainably managed forests. The FSC Certification has emerged as one of the primary and respectable international mechanism that supports sustainable forest management throughout the world. FSC certified sustainable forest management encompasses all the three components of sustainability, viz. ecological, economic and socio-cultural well-being. It has been defined as 'the process of managing permanent forest land to achieve one or more clearly specified objectives of forest management with regard to the production of a continuous flow of desirable forest products and services without undue reduction of its inherent values and future productivity and without undue undesirable effects on the physical and social environment.' A statement that is a mirror image of SPIL's own concerns in forest preservation and its corporate philosophy of being a 'Forest Friendly Company.'

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was formed in the year 2001 by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with a vision to introduce and establish a green building movement in India. The IGBC Certification is one of the most respectable mechanisms in practice that promotes environment friendly construction for ecological sustainability and for bringing about green living to the forefront of social priorities. It also has an altruistic aim of seeing India emerge as one of the global leaders in green buildings.Something that attaches itself automatically with SPIL's all round endeavour for a cleaner, greener world.

Controlling emissions and clean environment are primary areas of concern for humanity today to sustain life and the natural resources of the planet. The E1 certification is a strict set of norms aimed at protecting the environment and reducing formaldehyde emissions from products. As part of its strict mechanisms, E1 is considered one of the gold standards for healthy emission practices. SPIL in its endeavor to safeguard the environment is a passionate promoter of such practices.
