Sandeep GandhiSandeep Gandhi, is an Architect by profession but a public transport and NMT infrastructure expert by training. Mr. Gandhi has over sixteen years experience for working in the field of NMT infrastructure planning and design. He has been associated with organizations, trusts and NGO's and has been actively involved in the promotion of sustainable urban transport and its implementation in Indian Cities. He is a honorary advisor with Samarthyam, Delhi, he is also the bicycle infrastructure design expert with Interface for Cycling Expertise (I-Ce), Netherlands, he is an advisor to DIMTS (a JV company between Delhi Govt. and IDFC, India), and Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Program (TRIPP), IIT Delhi. Mr. Gandhi has authored and co-authored design manuals for Bicycle Infrastructure design and BRT systems. He has been associated with TRIPP, IIT, Delhi for nearly 16 years and has been involved in public transport, pedestrian cum bicycle infrastructure design projects along with other projects pertaining to safe and efficient road geometry and engineering designs. He has been involved in Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) projects since 2001, which include major design responsibilities of six projects and review of up to four other projects. His exposure to other BRTS systems (through study visits) includes Bogota and Quito. As a consultant he is credited with many firsts in BRTS design such as parallel platform concept to handle large bus volumes, first fully functional and detailed cycle track in India, first corridor in India with completely barrier free pedestrian infrastructure and integrated spaces for hawkers, TSR etc. His firm S G Architects has also developed design and evaluation tools such as BRTS Evaluation and Design Tool (BEAD) and Cycling level of Service evaluation tool (Cylos).
