This Pentecostal Church is designed for 750 people on a square site in an urban residential context. To maintain the privacy between the surrounding homes and the church, the building had to be introverted. The challenge was to create architecture which had a sense of openness within an introverted built form. This is done through the juxtaposition of two squares, one rotated by 45 degrees relative to the other. The outer square has solid surfaces, and the inner square is transparent. The rotation sets up intermediate landscape space naturally lit from above. The entire built mass is set on a large datum which creates the landscaped foreground for the church and also a plaza space for public activities.
