Nirmal Kulkarni

Nirmal is one of the founding principals of the firm and has graduated from the AoA, Mumbai. His engagement with the design of built environment reflects the goal of evolving an architecture which heightens the sensory experience. This is achieved by weaving an intricate web of spaces which harmonize the hierarchies of volume, scale, materiality, color, & technology, aiming to reach a synthesis whilst addressing programmatic conditions. He has also been shortlisted for the International design competition by Japan Design Foundation and has been invited to design the cover page for their magazine - design scene. He also designed the cover for - Know Thyself - a book about the Spiritual Realm in the form of a Narrative which explores the relationship between a Mystic and seekers of Truth.

As a practicing architect he has the ability to traverse the boundaries between education and the practice of architecture & design. He has served as a visiting faculty member for design studio assignments in the School of Planning& Architecture, New Delhi and Sushant School of Art & Architecture Gurgaon. He is also invited as a jury member to several colleges and other professional forums and is the Moderator for NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) for their G-Sen Trophy 2013-14-15-16. He was also a part of the housing workshop at the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, Nov 2014. He was also a speaker at the 5th Asia Pacific Housing Forum (APHF5) event held in New Delhi, 3-4 September 2015 under the theme "Building Impact through Ecosystems for Bottom-of-the-Pyramid Affordable Housing & Sanitation".

Nirmal is one of the founding members of a "not for profit" organization operating from Delhi/NCR called Investigating Design INDES. It believes that design is an everyday phenomenon and its vision is to be enablers to make design available to everyone using INDES as a platform. It is currently conducting webinars for students of architecture in association with NIASA Council of Architecture. The other programs involve conducting design workshops for 6th standard students of municipal schools and other under-privileged children.
