Kathputli Colony is a slum rehabilitation programme, which The Delhi DDA has taken an initiative to provide proper housing facility to this artists' community and present them with an address, which is a manifestation of their community. It is spread over an area of 5.22 Hec. near the bridge of Shadipur Depot that is also famous for the bastion of Indian culture, nurtured by artists whose traditional skills have been handed down through generations.
The basic theme is to find an optimum solution for In-situ redevelopment of these slums and provide housing for the urban poor which is affordable as well as efficient in infrastructure. The aim is that it should require less maintenance, while achieving high standards of parameters such as a quality of life, physical environment, economic stability, socio-cultural values and urban sustainability. The developer has to provide 2800 affordable units and in return he is given land by DDA to develop 130 high end residential units and 17000sq.mt commercial area.
