Consulting

For Imazzle Signage wayfinding is not just signage; it's about collaborating with architects, developers and urban planner to understand, shape and influence how humans interact with the built environment, with a goal to increase economic activity and create pride in the local culture and community. It begins by gaining an understanding of the user and how they will use the space, then influencing the user in their navigation to create memorable experiences.

A unique approach

Through our process of design & innovation, careful study and research in the culture, language, mindset, community and human factors of the users, beautiful and functional signage and features are created and implemented for our world class clients.

It is with this understanding that Imazzle begins the concept design of signage and other communication elements. Carefully planned and well designed signage should always be intuitive, complimentary and of course be integral to the architecture in order to enrich the environment as well as the user experience. We understand that if the visitors experience is positive; one that allows them to easily navigate the space, they are more likely to return and tell others of their enjoyable experience.

Imazzle utilizes a wealth of knowledge and experience in technical design, engineering, materials and fabrication methods that result in the creation of high quality signage and features, which once placed on site in suitable locations, aid the user on their journey.

PVC Foamboard

The most frequently used sign material. Designed for interior and exhibition signage but useable in almost all situations.

Advantages

  • Affordable
  • Available in standard colours, plus black, white and grey.
  • Ideal out of direct sunlight.
  • Attractive matt appearance
  • Lightweight

Disadvantages

Signage can be picked by evil fingers so place it high or laminate it, if there is a risk from idle fingers.

Red will fade in direct sunlight within 12 months. Other colours will dull in direct sunlight over a period of years.

There is an unsightly bulging on very hot days when used outside and in direct sunlight. This goes down at sunset. It can be partly overcome by fixing with oversize holes.

Aluminium composites

These have largely replaced white faced aluminium, offering a matt finish that exudes quality

Advantages

  • Stands up to any weathers
  • Appearance stays good after years
  • Keeps its rigidity
  • Ideal for functional outside information carrying signage

Disadvantages

  • Inappropriate image for interior signs.
  • More expensive than PVC foam board

CAUTION: There are two grades. Hoarding board is much cheaper, BUT it is only available in white; it is only useable for single side signs; the aluminium face is much thinner than for the proprietory brands. For long outdoor life detailed signage, it is not recommended.

Correx

Used for temporary signs; Contractors boards, Estate Agents boards etc.

Advantages

  • Cheap: about a quarter of the price of foam board.
  • Cuts with a Stanley knife or similar
  • Ideal for temporary signs
  • Easy for DIY sign making

Disadvantages

  • No rigidity, larger signs needs back support
  • Should never be used for large boards
  • Easy to put a nail or screw straight through it
  • A bend is effectively a break
  • Not good for the corporate image
  • Carriage: Several pieces the same size need to be put together for transport particularly with larger sizes.

Acrylic

Advantages
  • Exudes quality
  • Available in a wide range of colours
  • Ideal for prestigious image carrying signs

Disadvantages

  • Can be broken by a determined brick if not supported behind
  • We only use the more expensive cast acrylic. The cheaper extruded acrylic fractures under stresses and should be avoided
  • Expensive, about double the cost of foam board

Clear Acrylic and Polycarbonate

Ideal where signs might be tampered with. The signage is applied to the back (mirror imaged) which is then sprayed or covered in vinyl. The front provides a smooth surface which can be wiped with ease.

Advantages

  • Signage cant be picked at.
  • Graffiti easier to deal with

Disadvantages

  • Sign cannot be amended
  • These are more expensive than acrylic or dibond boards.
  • Not appropriate for large boards

Vinyl covered foamboard

Advantages
  • Over ordinary foam boards
  • Prevents fade in sunlight
  • Can be made in any colour

Disadvantages

  • Little cost advantage over acrylic
  • Not practical for large signs

Laminated signs

Advantages

  • Over ordinary signs
  • Prevents interference
  • Gives a quality impression

Disadvantages

  • Signs can't be modified at a later date
  • Not practical for large signs
  • Does add marginally to cost

Materials & Substrates

Materials

A material in sign making refers to the physical surface the ink is applied to. Nearly all materials used in sign making have a specific inkset or laminate to use in order to maximize longevity. Signs for Success always matches materials with the proper inkset and/or laminate for optimal quality and longevity. Materials are matched to the substrate as well, which include a range of longevity from 1 to 10 years. Specialty vinyls and laminates are used for textured surfaces, vehicle graphics, window overlays, and many other applications.

Substrates

Corrugated Plastic / coro

Referred to in the industry as "Corex" or "Coro," this material is predominately used for temporary and promotional signage. It's ideal for lawn signs such as election signs, sales, directional signage, real estate signs, or site signs for new building projects. Signs for Success is one of the only sign companies in Spokane that uses an opaque coro for our signs, allowing for double-sided signage. This way the image from the second side does not telegraph through.

PVC Polyvinyl chloride Smooth Plastic

A PVC "Foam" that is lightweight yet rigid and durable, it is ideal for medium-term signs for use both indoors and outdoors. It's commonly used for menu boards, point of purchase, and tradeshow directionals. Other brand names for this PVC product are Sintra, Kapabloc, Foamacell.

DiBond (ACM)Dibond is an aluminum composite material made of two sheets of .012 aluminum with a solid polyethylene plastic core. This material is ideal for mid-to-long term outdoor signs as it is not prone to warping in high heat. Great for use in Post & Rail signs or wall signs.

Alumalite

A composite material made of two sheets of .012 aluminum with a corrugated plastic core, Alumalite is used for long-term lawn signs, building signs, fence- or post-mounted signs, sales kiosks, and more. This is a very rigid product that can be used between two 4x4 posts and not bend with the wind. Because it is as strong as MDO &fiberboard, but it's plastic &aluminum, it will not degrade in the weather.

MDO Wood

MDO has an exterior-use, long-term grade plywood core, with a moisture-proof smooth surface. Plastic edgecap is optional. It's perfect for construction site signs, real-estate signs, billboards, double post signs and more. Signs for Success will generally print a sheet of vinyl to cover one or both faces (single or double sided), which provides an additional layer of protection for the painted faces.

Aluminum

This solid aluminum sheet features a smooth, baked enamel surface and is sold in a variety of gauges. Aluminum is ideal for long- to permanent-use signs such as traffic, parking lot, park, and reusable real-estate signs. White baked enamel faces come in .080, .063, and .040 thicknesses. Raw aluminum faces may be used if the sign needs to be made reflective by sheeting out with engineer grade reflective vinyl before printing.

Acrylic & Plexiglass

These are versatile substrates used for a large variety of applications. Available in multiple translucence levels and thicknesses, they're perfect for modern lobby displays, backlit signs of all types, 3D lettering, and more. Signs for Success can print on the reverse side of clear plexiglass and sheet out the print with white vinyl to make a great indoor wall sign that is very protected. Acrylic and Plexiglass are used frequently in healthclubs& offices.

Foam core & Gator Foam / Gator Plast

Foamcoreis a soft, inexpensive paper product with a wood-fiber veneer. GatorPlast is an extruded, rigid, lightweight polystyrene foam board bonded between two layers of ultra thin polystyrene veneer. These are typically used for medium term office displays, kiosks, POP, exhibits, custom shaped signs, easel signs, and temporary signs.

FRP Fiberboard

Fiberglass Reinforced Plywood Fiberboard can be used in place of MDO wood where larger than a 4x8 substrate is needed. The fiberglass faces provide long-lasting outdoor durability. Fiberboard can be fabricated to almost any size, as long as there is a truck big enough to transport it!

Polystyrene / Styrene

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) offers a consistent, easily printed matte surface for either one or two sided printing applications. This polystyrene product, available in HIPS sheet or rollstock form, is especially suitable for digital printing of displays, POP graphics, signs, translights, tags and cards. It can also be contour cut.

Lexan / Polycarbonate

Lexan / Polycarbonate comes in translucent white or clear for use in sign faces on backlit signs. It is 3/16" thick and can be cut to many sizes up to 100" x length of sign. Signs for Success can print full color on translucent vinyls, or cut a variety of solid colors of vinyl to update your sign face.

Other options are always available.

Signs for Success offers a variety of other options for signs to fit any need. Foamcore, a traditional, and more economical foam board for short-term indoor use and displays; wood/PVC/metal composite materials for specific sign uses; speciality textured materials for unique artistic applications; static cling or temporary adhesive materials, wall murals and decals are some other options to consider. The possibilities are endless!

We'll be happy to brainstorm ideas for you and lend our expertise to your sign project.
