The project initiated with an analytical study of Charles Correas" seminal work, the HUDCO courtyard housing unit; using the MIG-1 typology as the base.
The analysis was carried out through an atypical lens; one that suspended judgment preferring to adopt a neutral humble attitude over a biased standpoint. The study focused primarily on the relation between the thematic heart of the house, the courtyard, and its adjoining domestic programs; a relationship that finds its articulation exclusively in terms of varying degrees of perceived interconnectivity, expressed both visually as well as physically. The project assumes the extracted degrees as sacrament, proposing its evolution; the elevation to the next iterative level. As such the project, while maintaining the essence of the connectivity of the HUDCO courtyard housing typology, opens itself up into the landscape, essentially blurring to an extreme degree the fine line between the built mass and its environ.
HUDCO COURTYARD HOUSING
An introverted relationship made evident and exaggerated through both the placement of the living area in relation to the courtyard as well as the internal connectivity of domestic program.
Though a reworking of the multiple threshold conditions, while retaining the studied internal programmatic relationships, the project attempts to reach the next iterative level in defining the relationship between the project and its site
