Dr Bhau Daji Lad City Museum based in Mumbai is the oldest museum of Mumbai and the third oldest across the country which came into existence in the year 1872 with the name of Victoria and Albert Museum. The amazing collection of the Museum showcases the history and life of Mumbai in the nineteenth century along with the Indian decorative arts.
The basic idea behind the establishment of Dr Bhau Daji Lad City Museum was mooted in the year 1850 during the preparation of the first great exhibition of Works of the industry which was supposed to be held in 1851 at the Crystal Palace of London. The true companion of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert presented the exquisite art and craft of the British colonies to stimulate their trading. The present building of the museum came into vision in 1872 while in 1975 it attained its name as Dr Bhau Daji Lad City Museum. The most amusing thing about the museum is its outstanding collection of dioramas and clay models which documented the realistic life of Mumbai people in 19th century.
