Morphogenesis designed Qube, a commercial office space for IT companies, in Gurgaon, a rapidly growing city in Delhi.
The project was envisioned as a wrapped around element with the aim to clear the distances between public and private spaces. This challenge enabled the designers to to strike a balance between being sustainable and being commercial. Atypical of IT buildings, the building was designed as a 12m x 12m grid that served the wide floor plate requisite.
The double-skinned facade created a cubical volume when combined with the receding floor plates, suspending the column grids within the envelope of the building and thus, creating an underbelly that was envisioned as an urban public space for IT employess working 24X7.
The external twin facade is made up of a massive wall program featuring a single-glazed outer skin used majorly for its air cavity properties as a protection from the harsh Delhi weather. The skin facilitates natural ventilation while minimizing heat gain. Huge windows have been designed for increased cooling of the interiors.
