We designed a cute cottage by the sea in a fun fitout with a twist Share
The Jam Jar Diner in Versova was a sweet cottage to be converted to an all-day Diner / Cafe and then seamlessly transition into a buzzy nightspot. We created a fun, unassuming design language for the place, to feel instantly likable.
The design idea centred around created an eccentric wall shelving idea, which would conceptually be a mad stack, almost caught mid-tornado, that would house most of the functional storage, display, and other odds and ends.
The Bar also doubles up as a place to eat, hence we favoured a large wide bar, to look and feel like a Diner during the day, and become a buzzing active Bar by night.
A large part of the design was to open up the site to the outside, we created large picture windows and a skylit roof, to allow natural light into the space, and create a bright, cheerful, all-day vibe.
Features planned in were a large Jukebox, and surrounding paraphernalia. We curated a long list of props, to look and feel like an old Grandmother's larder, and an evolving direction for the continuous evolution of the outlet.
The manicness of the display wall integrates into it the functional AC units, and intersperses a diverse set of elements amongst itself. We designed the wall to be the main element of interest at the Jam Jar
The Outdoor Terrace area opens into the mezzanine at Jam Jar, and creates a surreal backdrop for the dining. We created a fun topography for the Terrace, in a maximal use of china mosaic patterns that create a fun twisted landscape The Terrace by day is bright and day-lit.We created a perimeter landscape and strange light fixtures, to feel magical and strange at the same time.
The Terrace then transits into a quieter, more romantic space by night, that is a break from the louder more buzzing bar area downstairs. We fashioned the terrace to be a comfortable lounge for people to unwind and have a leisurely meal.
The night-time vibe of the Terrace, where pools of light define dining areas, all growing out from the surrealistic mosaic landscape. The Jam Jar is intended to be a hub for the emerging young hipster community of the suburb
