Our proposal was for a CSR project for one of India?s largest renewable energy companies involved a reorganization of client program, social need, and material resource. Three disparate design programs of an entrance gateway for the solar farm, a water storage tank for cleaning solar cells and a religious building for the neighboring villages were designed to be linked through their formal processing and it?s linked symbolism. The entrance gateway becomes a construct from the rammed earth excavated for the water storage tank, which in turn is linked both metaphorically and formally to the temple through the notion of a ?ghat?: a manifestation of an ancient interface between land and the tidal vagrancy of water. The linking of the water tank and the temple creates the potential of access for neighboring villages in this extremely arid regional context hence referencing a community need. The rammed earth shuttered reinforced concrete entrance gateway and a hybrid stone reinforced concrete temple and ghat are a realization of the latent capacities of local material and skill as resource.
