Smart "Talaos" adopts a holistic approach within its environ, integrating both sustainable practices, as well as contextual concerns. Capitulating to the annual overflow of the Yamuna, the proposal moulds reserve water cisterns within the ground plan, that accommodates to the below grade parking. The accumulated water, while crafting urban "talaos" is infused with the performative capacity of replenishing the vertical greens. Working through an unassuming modest massing, contextual shadow studies allocate placement of vegetative green walls. These walls in conjunction with ventilation conduits create systems of heat dissipation that achieve enhanced air cooling through natural means. An informed proliferation of the vertical shafts in conjunction with the capacitative limits of the vegetative walls results in a unique distribution of programs that is characterized by virtue of being air cooled, in resistance to spaces that are normatively air conditioned. A central spine housing the programs with the maximum weightage coupled with frequency of usage, pierces through the entirety of the massing, with its cantilevered extrusion culminating in the library and private reading rooms.
Conceptually on the ground floor the project forms two distinct public spaces, focused on their relation to water, while simultaneously collaborating with the immediate context in fostering an intimate sense of place. Whilst programmatically stitching linkages with the immediate context, it holds islands of F+B Kiosks, cafes, shopping, banking, hotel and apartment lobbies within a sea of food courts and shopping arcades. The level above, extends the public interface into the belly of the building, in addition to the introduction of the IT component. The levels above hold the housing, with the hotel sandwiched in-between. Through the informed placement of program sited strategically in-between the vertical greens and the ventilation conduits the building conceptually stratifies itself though a capacitative lens.
The proposal takes on a performative role rather than that of an imagery icon, preferring to physically fuse seamlessly into the context while driving its agenda of being contextually responsible.
