'Punjabi by Nature' a Delhi based Indian restaurant brand wanted a contemporary restaurant space yet retaining a connect to the north Indian flavour it carries. The Client had leased a 108 sq mtr piece of land in Bangalore and the building had to be erected to hold the restaurant & lounge spaces.

Additional brief generated by the design team was to capitalize on the Bangalore weather. One of the few cities in India which allow you to create a space that can seamlessly weave an indoor and outdoor experience which is enjoyable through most of the year. All the spaces were to be designed to spill out into covered, semi-covered and open to sky courtyards which helps pull the landscape into the indoor experience.

The allocated piece of land was in the middle of a urban jungle surrounded with commercial buildings. There was complete lack of privacy as all the buildings around the site could look in and our site would actually get a view of the rear side of these buildings, which held their services. The building was designed for an inward experience with the boundary walls going up as high as 6.5 meters providing complete privacy at points and the courtyards on the inside allowed for framed views of the sky. The building is conceived as a large pavilion that is sitting in a lush green garden. To fulfill this the structure became a challenge in terms of the large spans & cutouts being supported with proportionally slim columns and the landscape becomes the key feature, the backdrop - almost like a giant artwork which drives the drinking & dining experience for this space. The almost 8500 sq. ft. front of house floor space is broken up into a series of experiences. From high energy and lounge zones near the bar to relaxed fine dining and exquisite private dining experiences. Each these spaces have a unique connect & framed view of the landscape and the skies and a dynamic relationship with daylight through the day.
