The assignment involved the re-adaptive use of an existig small house to a commercial office building by various techniques of extension, expansion and transformation of floor space into an office space in a low rise green rsidential suberb inthe peninsula of dar - es - salam, Tanzania.
Requirements an d time for execution allocated were both in opposition of each other and hence led to a simple concrete frame and block infill construction. The use of a growing facade and a softwood pergola as an architectural strategy bring a new green to the immediate surroundings but also partnering with the green to derive solar shading and a humble, endearing presence, leading to the final expression.
This project has very modest claims architecturally, but makes a very good place to work and very happy set of neighbours on the street.
We await the green - its density - the writing in the harsh summers, resurgence in the monsoons and the shedding of flowers in seasons! This ever- changing organic facade strategy of the project delivers oxygenation of its immidiate surroundings and invites birds and butterflies to visit.
The economy of this solution and construction - the benefits it through our clients makes for a happy satisfying feeling.
The studio is always searching newer methods of solar protection, harvesting the light .
The regions we operate in demand sensitivity to simple issues which need to be solved equally simply.
