Moolchand Intersection was a high visibility urban design project that was awarded to Archohm. The shaping and profiling of the entire elevated and ground structures, as well as the base of deck slab and treatment of the diaphragm was an interesting design exercise. A 'ring' of pedestrian movement was created to reorganize the junction.
The project received great visibility, media and public appreciation, due to the intervention within a crucial junction in Delhi and because of the elevation of the pedestrians in the growing vehicular traffic. Lighting and landscape gave a cosmetic facelift to this urban insert project.
These "caterpillar" like structures of Moolchand have become a distinct part of Delhi's urbanity.
The Moolchand underpass was a tremendous opportunity of influencing large pedestrian and vehicular traffic. A concept of a circular tube to organize the junction was evolved. The suspended bridge and fins as well as the caterpillar like structures over the underpass lend a new identity to this famous junction
