The context here dictated the approach to this single occupant corporate office building. The client for whom SPASM
has already completed a country home wants to move his various offices under we roof. The site located at Mint Road - a tertiary street near the GPO office building, is an extremely dense office district. The preservation of the old facade was key, yet the brief and the internal refurbishment of the entire structure needed to be absolutely contemporary to house a modem day progressive business house.
We chose to frame the front facade of the building in a GLASS VITRINE
, to depict the structure we inherited as a precious object and to impart a clean searrJess modernity/protection to it.
Internally, the strategy into gut out the existing floors which are structurally compromised and replace the same with a new composite steel and concrete construct which will barely touch the external shell without loading it. A stairwell, atrium, gallery space is proposed to vertically coned and render a sense of one corporate entity.
A terrace garden, solar collection panels, rain water harvestation are some of the suggested features.
