The main head office of the Bombay Municipal Corporation is seated in this 1860's building by RL Stevens. For the first time in its history, the BMC requested a public expression of interest in the renovation, re-organisation and conservation of their Head office, along with the newer annexe building next to it. Our firm was awarded the project for the renovation of the grade I- Heritage building along with conservation architect ANL Associates. Beside the re-organisation of the functions and needs for a fast growing corporation our challenge has been to integrate the technologies of efficient air-conditioning, lighting and computer networks into this 150 year old structure, while retaining & repairing its wooden ceilings, Minton tile floors and its neo-gothic arches and stained glass windows.
We have attempted to integrate a 21st century efficiency into a 19th century aesthetic as boldly and lightly as possible.
