The project entailed the addition of corporate office spaces to an existing printing press. The plot was too tight for two separate structures. SPASM designed twelve different schematic ideas out of which three are presented here.OPTION 1 :
Conceived as giant floating slabs separated by floor to ceiling by recessed glazing walls. These slabs would be held up on concrete structural cores. The slobs would vary in profile at every level and at particular levels interconnect the new building through conferencing facilities to the existing print house.OPTION 2 :
Conceived as a introverted form completely glazed on the inside, having an atrium like street and making reference to Hermon Herzberger's Centraal Beheer insurance company project. The entire exterior of the building was visualized in a terracotta jali.OPTION 3 :
Conceived as an assemblage of various cuboid organs which relate to various functions of the corporate offices within and connected where they touch each other.
Each of these strategies was debated in depth with the client body.
The project is yet to take off.
