Indian society of lighting engineers (ISLE) based in Kolkata, India, was incepted in the year 1984 as an apex nonprofit body of lighting and illumination engineering in India. They got established with the aim of promoting lighting practice in the country keeping in mind the environment friendly conditions and energy efficient lighting systems. They have done this with the help of unremitting contribution in the equivalence activities of the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) as well as in the technical work of CIE (the International Commission on Illumination), Vienna, Austria, the apex international body of lighting and illumination engineering, to which they are affiliated.
They had helped in promoting education, creating courses and education curricula in various universities such as Manipal Institute of Technology, Jadavpur University, Hi-Tech Institute, Mumbai Polytechnic, Calcutta University, Mewar University, KIIT University, IIEST (BESU), and many others. They have encouraged students to get various courses by providing them scholarships.
They are very much focuses and promote Science, Technology and Art of lighting. It is nonprofit organization catering the need of education sector in India. The board comprises of scientists, architects, engineers, academicians, designers, research scholars, and others who are interested in lighting & illumination engineering.
