India Art Festival, a modern and contemporary art fair is an initiative of Kalavishkar, an institution promoting fine arts for more than a decade and half. Kalavishkar also publishes 'Indian Contemporary Art Journal' a quarterly art magazine from Mumbai.
The first edition of India Art Festival was held at Nehru Centre, Mumbai from 17 to 20 Nov 2011 under the guidance of Dr. Saryu Doshi, former Director, NGMA, Mumbai, Mrs. Prafulla Dahanukar, senior artist & President, Bombay Art Society and Ms. Anupa Mehta, as an Advisor, VIP Relations. After the grand success of the first edition of Art Festival, the second edition of India Art Festival was held from 28th November to 02nd December 2012 for five days at MMRDA Main Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Bandra(E), Mumbai, India. The Advisory committee included Ms. Arpana Caur, Mr. Siddharth Tagore, Dr. Avani Rao, Dr.Deepak Kannal, Ms. Sara Arakkal, Mr. Subhash Awchat and Ms. Nisha Jamvwal. The second edition attracted unprecedented visitors.
The true spirit of Indian culture is reflected in its art, music, dance, drama and literature. The promotion of fine arts is pivotal to spread this spirit and essence of our culture among masses. There are quite a few institutions working towards the promotion of fine arts in India. Kalavishkar is one of those institutions promoting fine arts in the country for more than a decade and half.
Kalavishkar has been encouraging art students for many years and presenting 'Kalavishkar' award since 2005; it is presented every year to the art students selected by judges' panel in the All India Annual Art Exhibition of the Bombay Art Society at Jehangir Art Gallery. Kalavishhkar also presents an award to professional artist since 2011 at the Bombay Art Society's annual art exhibition.
