Govt. Girls High School, Ahmedabad, Gujarat,2004 Of the 100 marked heritage buildings in Ahmedabad, the colonial
styled Raikhad Govt school is one of the building under the earthquake schools rebuilding PMO funded program.
A new school was proposed on the site, besides the existing heritage structure. The design gesture was to place the building in a way that instead of becoming a catalyst in demolition of the old it adds value to the old and enhances it Existing trees on the site were to be retained hence carving out different kinds of spaces which children of varied age groups can use.
The old building marks one side of the quadrilateral formed by 3 flanks of classroom & laboratory bays with the hall interspersed within this quadrilateral.The centrally placed hall is a congregation area, terrace of the hall is connected to the classroom corridors through a winding stair around the hall ending in a water tank completing the composition.
Wide single loaded corridors, deep windows, corridors with open ends makes for a well-ventilated shaded interior. An environment the less privilege wouldnt have within the strict geometry & rigor manifested by precast curved lintels echoing the
