The arrangement of the plan around a series of courtyards with cooling elements as vegetation, water, shadow ensures cool air ventilation in the summer time and allows for sunny family gathering spaces in the winter time. Most of the units have primarily an east-west orientation to ensure maximum solar gain in the winter and protection in the summer. The architectural expression is a mix of large solid surfaces punctuated by generous openings to capture the views outside. The South and West elevations have fewer openings. North and East (with views to the ridge) have maximum glass surfaces. Multiple passive cooling strategies have been planned for the house that include earth cooled tunnels and vents, strategic openings in the massing, double walls etc.
