The interiors for Vidyanagar, Jaipur draw inspiration from the undulating terrain of Rajasthan. The proposed form, materials and finishes, are in response to the space constraints and volume of the concessions lobby. Accomadating the program brief in relatively small concessions area was the challenging limitation.

The undulating layout accommodates the entire program of the concessions counter by segregating the requirements into drinks counter and food counter. The counter acts as the focal point of the design with the counter frontage reaching a maximum height of 15'. The finish of the counter facade resembles the eroding rock facade caused due to strong sandy winds. The sandstone cladding on the walls and ceiling defines the character of the entrance lobby. The 7'3" clear height of this space along with the stone character create a simple austere monastery entrance for the concessions lobby which opens up as one enters the space. The clear glazing framed by red travertine marble visually links the box office lobby with the concessions lobby.

The design hence sought a solution in the easily palatable symbolic representations of the city. Blatant use of waves and the very sinuous curves are directly reminiscent of the deserts around Rajasthan. These became the design regulations for the first multiplex in the Pink City. The end results achieved through a confluence of very contemporary materials like solid surfaces mimicking textures of the rippling sand, to engraved stone walls, selective stone flooring and cladding comprised the palette.
