Project Work Status: Ongoing Projects

This makes it possible to work on an individual element of a school simultaneously keeping an eye on how those elements interact - with each other, with the whole school and with the larger community as well. The first impression of this building serves as a sense-making device that can guide and shape the behavior and performance of kids. It further assists in facilitating the generation of school commitment.

Flexible space can be utilized as active space directly adjacent to the classrooms thereby encouraging healthful, outdoor activities in all seasons and not restricting kids to classroom during monsoon.unique spaces allow children flexibility to move, collaborate, and express themselves in creative ways. Strategic location of activity room acts as a display of art at the entrance ways to the complex. Stepped ramp access adds to the scenic journey up the steps to access the first floor consisting of admin areas and group related rooms like smart class, library, and activity room.

Elementary Classesare inviting and friendly and not institutional-looking or forbidding. We know that community involvement in schools is a key factor in their success and so the community needs to feel that the school belongs to them. Each teacher can now alter their space to suit the learning rather than adjusting their lessons to suit the space.Green space outside each classroom: each classroom is appended with a small over-hanging space, where students can gather for quiet study, play, group activities etc. Flexible spaces means the group size can change to support multiple learning modalities.

For elementary classrooms with no walls or flexible walls: we created elementary schools open to the outdoors and nature Student display spaces by the entrance can make a powerful statement about the learning mission of the school.
Typically, one can never provide enough places in a school for displaying student projects, and every opportunity should be utilized for decorating various places in the school with student work.Spaces in which science and art are learned need to have the kind of richness that these disciplines themselves possess.Art, Music and Performance:There was a time when art, music and theater were considered "soft" sciences - less important as it were to getting a good education. With the growing awareness of how the brain works and the ability to integrate multiple-intelligences theory more fully into the learning, experience, it is now evidence that the arts are part of, and not separate from the other disciplines.

Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Human beings are genetically engineered to be outdoor animals and the need to be connected to the outdoors is never stronger than when we are young.Every opportunity should be explored to create strong connections between indoor spaces and outdoor vistas and learning terraces.
Today, the term "High Performance" is a buzzword in school design - and rightly so.High performance refers both to the performance of the building itself, as well as to those who live and work in the buildings. In a school setting, sustainable design becomes an excellent teaching tool. It can become a dynamic model to teach architecture, engineering, construction, and environmental science in harmony with nature.Glazing between learning environments allows students and staff to feel connected to each other, and fosters a sense of community.

Traffic management, and roads and spaces to support this, is crucial to an orderly school. There is nothing worse than a confusion of students and buses early in the morning. The safe disembarkation and embarkation of students from buses and cars is of paramount importance. Buses should not have to reverse, and students should not have to cross active roads when moving from the bus to the school and vice versa. The campus is vehicle free to as large an extent as possible. Students should be able to move efficiently from the disembarkation points to different buildings on the campus.

The spatial relationship between classrooms and support spaces is thought through carefully. Student traffic of 3000 students should not be such that certain areas are disturbed due to constant traffic.
Safety - no sharp edges, sudden changes in level where students can stumble, sufficiently high railings, bars across windows. Security - both electronic and manual, is thought through carefully. All spaces are designed to be flexible and to have multiple uses.Clusters of classrooms have breakout spaces.Designated space, multi-functional with activity spaces for art, music, science etc. expanding beyond what has been provided.

Multipurpose center. This design includes a full-sized gym linked to a multifunctional space, music and performance space, canteen and storage area. The center is strongly focused around community use and includes a canteen that can be used for community functions and/or out of school hour's activities. The multipurpose hall (MPH) is designed for indoor sports like squash, table tennis, badminton and basketball courts as well as for drama performances, assemblies and other functions. Designing it to be self-sufficient space with changing/shower/toilet facilities, as well as storage for chairs, stage props etc. Integrated Sports facilities like the swimming pool and the MPH hall share changing facilities, the MPH should spill out onto the playing fields, sports stores can be common. There is a growing awareness about the need for sports in schools, so as many outdoor play areas provide for - a skating rink, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, separate playing fields for primary and secondary, jogging and cycling tracks.

DPS Panvel is designed around a model of encouraging sports &extracurricular activities. Eg rifle shooting/Horse riding/swimming etc. to encourage it in schooling hours. The bridge which provides access to the campus is the first school structure that anyone entering the campus encounters. It is designed keeping in mind to show the presence of the school from the highway.
