The design intent was to shift away from the typical monolithic, box-like morphology in order to create a more visually dynamic space. The project brief entailed the fitting-out and interiors of an auditorium facility catering to diverse activities such as stage performances, seminars, web-casts. Chennai is known to have played a significant role in the South Indias historical and cultural expansion, and the design approach is illustrative of a progressive stance. These are in the form of lines and planes creating a visually connected geometric pattern running through fabric-mounted, acoustical wall and ceiling panels, eventually creating a three dimension alenvelope for the auditorium space. Hence, the entire structure gives a vision of being one whole surface. The strong lines of the planes are illuminated by cove lighting enhancing visual drama within the space. Materiality and palette is restrained, in order to let the continuity of the surfaces be perceived.
