A Mirage of Grandness
A tiny space split into three levels is what spatially creates Carma, a magnificently designed boutique. By using a full length bronze mirror at the end of a long aisle lined with individual racks for designers and fashioned to look like individual courtyards, an illusion is created which extends the store furthermore. It makes it seem like that the entire courtyard is wrapped in contemporary Jaali or the traditional Jharokhas of Indian palaces.
The narrow ground floor serves as a dramatic double height vestibule with the two cut-outs on the floor and the ceiling, tying up the lower ground floor and the mezzanine spaces. With the reflection of a half chandelier made with strung beads creating an illusion of completeness and the flamed black granite flooring that effortlessly highlights the place, this fashion boutique stands out as something unique and grand in its own way. The entire store has been constructed with shot blasted calcium silicate board finished with lacquer to achieve an organic surface in white. A salon for private buyers is tactfully concealed behind the Jaalis screening the mezzanine, allowing the buyers reflected views from the double mirrors all the way two floors down.
