The house was designed for Mr and Mrs Chevli. They wanted to bring down their existing, dilapidated house and reconstruct a new house designed to their lifestyle. After a lot of brainstorming we came to the conclusion that it would be useless to refer to the existing dilapidated structure as the starting point for design as our clients wanted to start fresh.
We studied the climate and the location and scribbled few thoughts. Our idea was to explore the traditional form of house organized around a courtyard. We developed that idea and formulated a central spine which was to be the highlight of the building both internally and externally. It became the most important space, yet only a transit space. We wanted to explore this contradiction and exploit it to inform the arrangement of spaces around the spine.
