If the design is acknowledged, the artist produces a full-scale colour sketch in various hues and palettes.

Printing Techniques on WALLPAPERS

Wallpaper printing practices comprise of

  • Surface printing
  • Gravure printing
  • Silk screen-printing
  • Rotary printing
  • Digital printing

Wallpaper is prepared in lengthy reels, which are hung vertically on a wall. Patterned wallpapers are designed so that the pattern "iterates", and thus portions cut from the same roll can be hung next to each other so as to continue the pattern without it being easy to see where the joint between two pieces occurs. In the case of huge complex patterns of images, this is normally achieved by starting the second piece halfway into the length of the repeat, so that if the pattern going down the roll repeats after 24 inches the next piece sideways is cut from the roll to begin 12 inches down the pattern from the first. The number of times the pattern repeats horizontally across a roll does not matter for this purpose. A single pattern can be delivered in several different colours.

Seismic WALLPAPERS

In 2012, Experts at the Institute of Solid Construction declared that they had developed wallpaper that can help in keeping a masonry wall from weakening in an earthquake. The wallpaper uses glass fibre reinforcement in several directions to distribute energy evenly when the walls shake during an earthquake.

Standard wallpaper glue is not enough to keep walls standing in the event of seismic activity, however. KIT therefore began working with Bayer's MaterialScience division to enhance the product. The result was a flexible yet soft adhesive that contains water and polyurethane beads. The adhesive forms to the grooves in a wall's masonry, and as the water evaporates it boosts the wallpaper's strength. The fabric was put to the test in a model home in an earthquake simulator, and thanks to the seismic wallpaper the building still stood and suffered little damage after the simulated quake.

How to apply WALLPAPERS on walls?

Like paint, wallpaper entails accurate surface preparation before application. Moreover wallpaper is not appropriate for all spaces. For instance, restroom wallpaper may deteriorate hastily due to excessive mist. Appropriate preparation includes the mending of any defects in the drywall or plaster and the removal of loose material or old adhesives. For an enhanced finish with thinner papers and poorer quality walls the wall can be cross-lined (horizontally) with lining paper first. Accurate room dimensions (length, width and height) along with number of windows and door openings is crucial for collating wallpaper. Large drops or repeats in a pattern can be cut and hung more economically by working from sporadic rolls of paper.

How to remove WALLPAPERS from walls ?

  • H2O (Water)

The humblest elimination option is to brush the paper with water. Water immerses in the paper and saturates the glue, allowing the paper to be peeled off. This does not work well with non-peel able vinyl, as vinyl is not porous. Yet it is still effective on many contemporary papers.

  • Chemical wallpaper stripper

Chemical wallpaper stripper can be bought at most tint or home enhancement stores. It is mixed with warm water or a mixture of warm water and vinegar, and then squirted onto wall surfaces. Several solicitations may be required to drench the existing wallpaper. Perforation can aid in the captivation of the mixture and lead to sooner removal. After the mixture has softened the wallpaper, the wallpaper can be removed easily by pulling at the edges and with the aid of a drywall knife.

  • Haze

Alternative method of removal is to smear steam to wallpaper in order to thaw the wallpaper paste. A Wallpaper Steamer comprises of a reservoir of water, an electric heating element and a tube to direct the steam at the wallpaper. The mist dissolves the wallpaper fixative, allowing the wallpaper to be peeled off. Though, caution must be taken to thwart damage to the drywall underneath. Sometimes steaming can lead to the rotting of underlying drywall or plaster, leaving a jagged surface to be repaired.
